Researching LACHMANN and SOMERFIELD families from Berlin.
I have been doing genealogy research for almost 20 years. I specialize in Jewish Chicago
research and am past President of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois (JGSI).
I also speak on "Writing Your Family History" and have spoken on this subject at most
of the IAJGS conferences for the last 10 years. I live in suburban Chicago.
My family is from Romania and Ukraine.
I joined the group to help a friend of mine solve a problem. She found a letter from her dad
to a cousin (he called him cousin) around 1944 congratulating him on the birth of his son.
She is trying to determine how they are related. Here is what we know.
My friend's dad left Germany in 1938.
His name is Rudolf LACHMANN born: 18 March 1917 in Berlin area. He died
in Chicago 5 Jul 2004. Rudolf's father was Leo LACHMANN who died in Berlin 1936.
The SOMERFIELD who we are trying to connect to are:
Gerhard (Gerard) Leopold SOMERFIELD who was b 30 July 1908 in Berlin (?)
and died in London May 1992.
Any information or ideas on how to research this issue would be appreciated.
Mike Karsen, Deerfield, Illinois.
