Lillie was born March 1, 1904 in the Williams / Possum Trot Community of
Washington County, Texas to Julius and Bertha (Kurtz) Sommerfeld. She was
baptized and confirmed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill and on
November 22, 1923 she was united in marriage to Herman H. Weiss by Rev.
F. Apfelbach in the same church. In 1943 she and her husband moved into
town and became members of Grace Lutheran Church where she remained
a faithful member.

In 1945 the Weiss’ opened a service station across from the American Legion
Home. That operation continued for 22 years. They were married for 61 years
when Herman passed away on August 18, 1984. Lillie was an avid baseball fan
especially to her beloved New York Yankees and rooting for Yogi Berra. Whether
it was tears of disappointment at a loss or tears of joy after a victory, she and
her husband would cry with the team. She kept active well into her nineties
and mowed her lawn when she was 94. Lillie slowed down a bit at the age of
104 when she moved into the nursing home. The family gatherings remained
very special to her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Herman H. Weiss Jr.
and Clarence Weiss, brothers Ed, William, Melvin, Albert and Leslie Sommerfeld,
sisters Lena Rodenbeck, Celesta Rosner and an infant baby sister, son-in-law
